sMove for Mountain Biking

sMove for Mountain Biking: More Laps. Better Flow.

Thomas Doppler4 minutes reading time

Dust on the goggles. Mud on the shins. Full-face helmet on. Phone in the pocket.

A rider rolls up to the lift with a long-travel bike, wide bars and one thing on their mind: Another lap.

The gate should simply get them there.

Wide bars. Open lane.

Mountain bikes are not built for squeezing through narrow access points.
Wide handlebars, pedals, backpacks and long frames quickly turn a conventional gate into an awkward obstacle – especially when the lift line is filling up behind you.

SKIDATA sMove Mountain Access Summer Season (3)

sMove gives riders the space they need

Its flexible Wave barrier opens into a wide, obstacle-free passage, while radar-based detection keeps track of movement through the lane.

  • No twisting the bike sideways.

  • No lifting the front wheel around a barrier.

  • No stop-start shuffle at the gate.

Validate. Roll through. Get on the lift.

Keep the lift line moving

Bike parks run on laps.

Riders come down, queue up, ride back to the top and do it all again. When hundreds of bikes move through the same lift base on a busy summer day, even small delays add up quickly.

That makes access part of the overall flow of the park.

sMove keeps riders and their equipment moving through the entrance naturally, helping reduce bottlenecks and the need for staff to step in when bikes get caught up at the gate.

Less friction at the bottom. More riding on the mountain.

SKIDATA sMove Mountain Access Summer Season (4)

Your pass is already in your pocket

There is one piece of equipment nearly every rider already carries: a smartphone.
Trail maps. Weather. Photos. Navigation. Ride tracking. Messages from the crew.
So why should the lift pass require another card?
With smartphone access, guests can buy and activate their ticket digitally and head straight to the lift. Bluetooth-based validation means the phone can stay in the pocket.

  • No stop at the ticket office.

  • No searching for a keycard.

  • No extra piece to carry.

Buy. Activate. Ride.

For operators, the benefit is just as clear: more sales can move online, queues at ticket offices shrink, and staff can focus on guests who actually need assistance.

From ski season to bike season

The mountain changes dramatically between January and July.

  • In winter, skis, boards and poles move through the lift entrance.

  • In summer, it is enduro bikes, downhill rigs, hiking packs and strollers.

The access infrastructure should be able to make that switch too.

sMove can be converted from winter to summer operation in around 20 minutes.

The same access point can serve skiers in winter and bikers in summer – without replacing the core hardware every time the season changes.

Snow melts.

Trails dry.

sMove is ready.

SKIDATA sMove Mountain Bike Lift Gate (2)

Built for a mountain with more than one season

Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis shows what that looks like in practice.

The Tyrolean destination combines 210 kilometres of pistes with a major summer business attracting around 800,000 visitors.

Mountain bikers, hikers, families and guests with different mobility needs all use the same lift infrastructure.

sMove gives them an open, flexible access point that works across those different situations – winter and summer alike.

  • For a resort, that means one system can support very different guest flows throughout the year.

  • For the rider, it is much simpler.

The trail is dry. The lift is running. The bike rolls through.

The gate should disappear into the ride

Nobody comes to a bike park for the access technology.

They come for the first berm. The rock garden that looked easier from the chairlift. The jump they finally clear. The last lap before closing.

Good access stays out of the way.

That is what sMove does.

  • Wide passage for bikes.

  • Smartphone access for riders.

  • Smooth flow for operators.

  • One system across the seasons.

Phone in pocket. Bike through. Lift up. Drop in.
