At the beginning of 2018 SKIDATA was able to set an important course for the future by entering the Chinese market. The majority holding in Cytel Ltd., the leading provider of access systems in China, is an important piece in the puzzle of continuous expansion. "We go where the customer needs us and where there is an appropriate commissioning and project landscape. With the acquisition in China, SKIDATA is continuing to develop in an economically highly interesting region," explains Hugo Rohner, CEO of SKIDATA.
Football World Cup, sweb platform and contactless NFC stadium access
Another highlight was the football World Cup in Russia, where the technology from Salzburg enabled up to 800,000 soccer fans to enter a total of 12 World Cup matches quickly and safely. SKIDATA has thus been represented at all world and European football championships since the 2004 European Championships in Portugal.
Almost coinciding with the start of the World Cup, the world market leader in access and visitor management presented its latest achievement in parking management at the IPI show in Florida with the sweb software. A unique cloud-based system enables car park operators to put together their own tailor-made concept. From online reservations to validation solutions - the sweb platform makes it easy to increase sales.
Shortly before the end of the year, SKIDATA AG was able to present a special highlight: Allianz Arena, home of FC Bayern Munich, is the first sports stadium in Europe to offer contactless access thanks to the new Apple-certified SKIDATA Near-field communication (NFC) reader. Visitors simply hold their iPhone or Apple Watch to the reader and can thus enter easily at lightning fast speeds.
Sales again over 300 million euros
Sales in the 2018 financial year amounted to 312 million euros. SKIDATA AG can look back on the second most successful year in the company's history. "We are particularly proud to have achieved growth of over 10% in the Mountain segment, the origin and heart of SKIDATA," stated Rohner.
Customers in over 100 countries rely on solutions from the SKIDATA portfolio for access for persons and vehicles. More than 10,000 installations in ski resorts, stadiums, shopping centers, cities, spas, theme parks, airports and trade fairs bear the SKIDATA logo. Around 800 new installations were added in 2018.
