Salzburg, September 15, 2017. SKIDATA kicked off the celebration of its 40th anniversary with a ceremony on September 15th. Numerous guests from the worlds of business and politics - including Governor Dr. Wilfried Haslauer - accepted the invitation of the world market leader in access and visitor management for the anniversary celebration at the headquarters in Grödig, near Salzburg.
Whether in the parking garages of the city of Amsterdam, the Canadian ski resort of Whistler Blackcomb, the cable car carrying visitors to the top of the Sugar Loaf mountain in Rio de Janeiro or at the famous Opera House in Sydney, Australia - SKIDATA installations can be found all over the world. With innovative ideas, the company has developed from a regional hardware manufacturer to an internationally successful digital solution provider and the world market leader in access and visitor management. The path leading to the SKIDATA success story began 40 years ago. In 1977, Günther Walcher started operations with the first printed ski ticket and the first electronic cash register - a milestone in the history of the mountain sports regions.
In the presence of numerous attendees and honorary guests including Governor Dr. Wilfried Haslauer, CEO Hugo Rohner and Charles Egli, Chairman of the SKIDATA Supervisory Board reviewed the four decades of successful corporate history as part of the ceremony: "What began as an idea 40 years ago is now an international big player in access and visitor management with a strong team. In short: from a start-up to a world-class company."
But it wasn’t only the printed SKIDATA ski ticket that conquered the ski slopes in the late 1970s. Over the last four decades, additional business units, innovative solutions and dedicated employees have also joined the group. Among other things, the portfolio was expanded with RFID chips for contactless entrance, vehicle access management, and solutions for stadiums, leisure parks and trade fairs. In addition to the portfolio, strong growth has also been seen in the sales network. Today, SKIDATA has 26 subsidiaries, five joint ventures and more than 10,000 installations in over 100 countries.
"SKIDATA is a successful and innovative company that employs 400 employees in Salzburg alone and has employed 60 new employees in the last year. The application of good and responsible corporate governance, which is particularly committed to training through an apprenticeship program, is reflected in the above-average commitment of employees to the company," said Governor Wilfried Haslauer, who congratulated the company's anniversary and impressive success story on behalf of the Province of Salzburg.
SKIDATA's course continues to focus on growth. "The fact that we continue to grow successfully is no coincidence, but to a large extent the result of our team's innovative strength," says Hugo Rohner. Globally, about 1,350 employees contribute to the company's success. With a large network of locations around the globe, SKIDATA offers attractive career and development paths both nationally and internationally.
Award and opening of the new SKIDATA Experience World
In recognition of its success story, the company was also honored by the Austrian Chamber of Commerce during the anniversary celebration. As part of the ceremony, CC Salzburg President Konrad Steindl presented a certificate to the SKIDATA management team to commemorate 40 years of outstanding work in the field of mechatronics.
An additional highlight of the festivities: With the 450 sq. m. Experience World, SKIDATA made a birthday present of a somewhat different dimension. The digital showroom was officially opened at the ceremony by Governor Dr. Wilfried Haslauer.
The SKIDATA Experience World gives our customers a fantastic look into both the ‘here and now’ as well as into the future of SKIDATA," said Hugo Rohner during the premiere tour with the guests from politics and business. "In our Experience World, the analog and virtual worlds of SKIDATA solutions impressively merge together." How do you manage the admission of 50,000 people into a stadium? What happens in a control center where hundreds of parking facilities are being centrally monitored? From now on, customers can see for themselves all of this and more in the SKIDATA Experience World.
This was also true for guests, both big and small, who attended the ‘Family and Friends Festival’ which followed the ceremony. With a colorful activates and entertainment program, the event for the larger SKIDATA community closed out the anniversary celebrations.
